Hey everyone!

I’m really confused on baby clothes sizes and hope you lovely Mamas can help?

I’m expecting a preemie baby so need to have some preemie and then newborn clothes but what’s the difference between 0-3month clothes and 3m clothes? 3-6m clothes and 6m clothes?

Should I organize the clothes to have 0-3m and 3m sizes all together in the same draw or will 3m be bigger than 0-3m?

Does that make sense?

How are you organizing your baby clothes by size?

I’m so confused haha! Help a Mama to be out!

3m usually fits rhe same as 3-6 in my experience. 6m usually 6-9m as well! I do have chunky babies too

in my experience 3 month fit the same as 0-3 month. We must buy different brands as just like adult clothes sizing does very.

youre right on! 0 - 3 and 3 are the same and 3-6 and 6 are the same :) brands do vary so don't be afraid to look at the bigger clothes a little early when the current size fits "perfect"

my kids wear Gerber and Carters because they fit their body style the best. For at least these brands, I find the same thing as you: 0-3 & 3 same, 3-6 & 6 same, 6-9 & 9 same, etc.

but once you run into different brands, they’re all screwy in all across-the-board. So helpful hahaha

I went based on looks. I definitely have some 3m stuff that looks more like 6m and vice versa. I organized her closet premie, 0-3m, and then any 3m and 3-6m stuff that looked comparable to the 0-3. Packed away everything bigger.

In general, 0-3 and 3m should be the same…but different brands run smaller/larger. Gerber brand, for instance, tend to run a full size smaller than Carter’s (which I consider the standard).

The children’s clothing size dance is never ending, though. Eventually the question will be what’s the difference between 24m and 2t (essentially nothing except the 24m is “infants” so will have things like onesies that toddler styles will not), then what’s the difference between 4T/5T and kids size 4/5 (again, usually more about style than size), and later…why does only size 6 have a “6x” size? Why do most brands run in even numbers only but then some will offer odd number sizing? And then if you want something made in a different country that uses centimeter sizing…ugh. Sorry, going off on a tangent because I have lost years of my life trying to figure all this out ��

as far as I can tell 6x is just a little bigger? It’s baffling that most things say “6-6x” when no other sizes do that. My oldest is starting to grow out of her size 6 stuff though and I’ll be like “okay, she needs size medium, 8.” And then the size offerings will be like…6-7 or 9-10 and I just want to burn down the entire children’s clothing industry ��

I always wondered who decided the sizes? Someone drunk or who just couldn’t count? Hahaha! My oldest is just moving from 5t to 6x or 6 so I’m about to feel your pain. They also don’t sell size 5 girls u DeRees where I am at either. It skips from 4 to 6, like why?!

So I like to think of the singular sizes like 3m 6m etc as (up to)3m. So 0-3 and 3 will fit the same closer to 3m if that makes sense.

When buying clothes I like to go off the measurements if they provide them. Target fits really really true to their height. So does target. Walmart clothing all runs small. I skipped newborn there and went right to 0-3.

I stack onesies on top of each other to compare size and sort that way instead of looking at tag sizes. Gerber and granimals tend to run small, Carter's is average, i guess, and then of course there's a lot of random brands, and amazon brands can vary in width and length. I have a random assortment and there are clothes labeled 3m that are the same size as newborn, so I keep that 3m with the nb stack

Stick to preemie size and newborn size for now . Once your baby grows out of the newborn size you can start 0-3 months or 3 months size

0-3 and 3m are the same thing. 3-6 and 6m are the same. When it's one number it's the upper range in clothing. so 9m = 6-9, 12m = 9-12, 18m = 12-18, and 24m = 18-24 months. After 24m you have 2T which means 2-3T, 3T which means 3-4T etc.
