If you’re a beginner sewer, DIY muslin burp cloths are a great project for you to try. Making them is simple and it will only take about 15 minutes to have a completed project. When learning something new I find it useful to do small projects that I can complete quickly. Completing a project gives me confidence to try it again and slowly improve over time!

Instructions

Wash And Dry Your Fabric

Washing and drying your fabric before sewing with it helps to pre-empt any shrinkage.

Cut Out Piece Of Fabric

Cut out a piece of fabric that is about 41″ x 41″.

Pin Or Iron Hems

Fold each side down 1/4″ and then another 1/4″ to create a hem. Pin as you go or use an iron to create the hem.

Sew The Hem In Place

Using your sewing machine, sew the hem into place. And you’re finished!

A classic muslin is light-weight and a single piece of fabric. A classic burp cloth has a layer of flannel in between two pieces of cotton which helps it be absorbent.
