This post is sponsored by Crock-Pot® brand. As always, allopinions are my own.

I got super excited when my friends over at Crock-Pot®brand challenged me to come up with new ways to use my Crock-Pot® Slow Cooker. Everyone knows that they are great for soups, stews, dips, and slow-cooking meats, but they have other uses that you might not have thought of. One example: Slow Cooker Thanksgiving Sangria. How’s that for outside the box?

How to Make Slow Cooker Thanksgiving Sangria:

To make this warm fall flavor-inspired co*cktail, I used the Crock-Pot®4-Qt Digital Slow Cooker. The size is perfect for this particular sangria recipe since it serves about 12 people.

What are the ingredients in Thanksgiving Sangria?

For this red wine-based sangria, start with two bottles of a Rioja from Spain. It’s my preferred varietal. However, any nice dry light-bodied red wine will work. A Pinot Noir would be my second choice.

Next, add a splash of brandy and cranberry juice for warmth and seasonal flavor.

Fruit is another traditional sangria ingredient. My fruit choices: cranberries and orange slices. These two work well together and fit the flavors of the fall season.

Simple syrup gives the recipe some sweetness. You can add more or less depending on how sweet you like your drinks.

Finally, to spice things up, I put in a few cinnamon sticks and about a teaspoon of whole peppercorns. Place the peppercorns in a little mesh bag to make it easy to remove them before serving.

FAQs

Is it better to make sangria the night before? ›

Yes, sangria is often prepared in advance to allow the flavors to meld together. It is recommended to let the sangria sit in the refrigerator for at least a few hours or overnight to allow the fruits and other ingredients to infuse into the wine. This enhances the overall flavor and makes it more intensely fruity!

What is the best wine for sangria? ›

The best wine for sangria is Garnacha (also called Grenache) or Pinot Noir. Garnacha comes from Spain, so it's my top pick for authentic Spanish sangria! Choose an inexpensive wine (under $20) that you would enjoy on its own. Why Garnacha and Pinot Noir?

Can you leave fruit in sangria overnight? ›

The rule of thumb for sangria preparation is to let the fruit pieces marinate in the alcoholic base while in the refrigerator for about 12 to 24 hours. This allows the fruits enough time to soak up and infuse their flavor into the wine.

What is the drinking night before Thanksgiving called? ›

Also known as Drinksgiving, Blackout Wednesday or Black Wednesday has become the first drinking weekend of the holiday season. In many ways, it rivals New Year's Eve and St.

What alcohol pairs well with Thanksgiving dinner? ›

No matter which seasonings you use, the combination of dry gin and vermouth, sweet apricot brandy, and lemon juice pair perfectly with a savory turkey. It makes both an excellent apéritif and a refreshing sipper during the meal. Gin really is one of your better food pairing options.

What hard liquor is good for Thanksgiving? ›

Whiskey: Whiskey pairs well with so many fall beverages. It is so easy to add a little bit to any drink to take your autumnal beverage up a few notches. Bonus points if you use a specialty whiskey!

Can you leave sangria in the fridge overnight? ›

The longer sangria sits in the refrigerator, the more the wine soaks into the fruit. I recommend refrigerating the sangria for at least 2 hours before serving, but preferably overnight.

Should sangria be chilled overnight? ›

Don't skimp on the chilling time.

By chilling the sangria, you give the fresh fruits a chance to infuse the wine with sweet, fresh flavor. If you cut this time short, your sangria won't taste as fruity or as balanced. I let mine chill for at least 8 hours before serving, or overnight for the best flavor.

Is sangria good the next day? ›

Serve as is, or with a bit more ice. Garnish with orange segments (optional). Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours, though best when fresh.

Are you supposed to refrigerate sangria after opening? ›

However, Sangria has wine and fruit in it - and these things tend to decay in warmth. Wine becomes vinegar rather quickly once exposed to air. Fruit of course gets mushy and falls apart. It's really in your best interest to keep your Sangria in the fridge at all times - and use ice cubes when it's out on the table.
