In 2001, United Way established Gifts In Kind, a #nonprofit program run by CRC Rideau-Rockcliffe CRC that collects donations of goods and services and redistributes them to charities and people in need across the Ottawa region. 🛍️Over the past 10 years, Gifts in Kind has provided $10M+ worth of necessities to hundreds of thousands of residents. 🙌 For organizations like Immigrant Women Services Ottawa (IWSO), being able to give basic needs like clothing and furniture 🧤 🛋️ to newcomer women takes some of the stress out of settling in a new country. “Receiving these gifts makes them feel that they belong, that someone cares,” 💞 says Amenah Abdulhameed, Manager of Settlement Integration. The income tax filing deadline is coming up on April 30 💵 Have you filed yours? For people facing financial challenges in our communities, this time of year can feel overwhelming to face alone. 🏔️But thanks to our donors, people struggling with budgets, forms, and taxes can get the help they need to increase their #FinancialLiteracy and get through this time stress-free. Co-founded with United Way, EBO Financial Education Centre (EBO)Centre d'Éducation Financière EBO (Entraide Budgétaire Ottawa) helps people who face systemic barriers to accessing financial services. 🤝 Clients can book an appointment at no charge to get help with anything from simple questions about tax forms and benefits, to managing more complex financial situations.Marc D’Orgeville, Executive Director at EBO says the organization mostly gets request from people who live on a low income, and this often includes seniors, single parents and new immigrants. ICYMI: Lanark County Interval House and Community Support Executive Director Erin Lee spoke to CBC about Ontario declaring intimate partner violence an epidemic. Lanark County Interval House was one of four groups working to curb gender-based violence in our region which we recognized with a Community Builder of the Year award last fall.
