Cool down this summer with all-watermelon everything — from salads and salsas to pizzas, popsicles, and co*cktails.

Ahhhhh watermelon, how we adore you.

Your shiny green exterior and deep-red hue are a welcome sight for sore eyes after the long winter months. The only thing we can think of is your thirst-quenching crunch. You’re refreshing, oh-so-sweet, and downright irresistible.

To give you all the attention you deserve, we rounded up 10 of our favorite watermelon recipes — starting with salsas and salads that walk the line between sweet and savory, then transitioning to desserts. And finally, co*cktails.

Time to get your summer on.

    1. Watermelon Salsa

We cordially invite you to double dip deep into this colorful and zesty fruit salsa.

    Ingredients:

    • 4 Cups Diced Seedless Watermelon
    • 1 Cup Diced Red Onion
    • 1/2 Cup Chopped Fresh Cilantro Leaves
    • 1 Jalapeño, seeded and finely diced
    • 1 Yellow Bell Pepper, seeded and finely diced
    • 1 Lime, zested and juiced
    • 1/2 Teaspoon Salt

    Instructions:

    1. Toss all ingredients together until well combined.

    2. Cucumber Watermelon Salad

It’s all about flavor, and NO fuss with this super simple salad perfect for lazy summer dinners.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 Watermelon, cut into cubes
    • 2 Cucumbers, cut into half-moons
    • 1 Red Bell Pepper, seeded and diced
    • Handful Torn Basil Leaves
    • Handful Torn Mint Leaves
    • Crumbled Feta Cheese, to taste
    • 4 Tablespoons Lime Juice
    • 2 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
    • Salt and Pepper, to taste

    Instructions:

    1. Combine watermelon, cucumber, pepper, and fresh herbs. Toss well to combine, then top with feta cheese.
    2. Make the dressing by whisking together lime juice and olive oil. Drizzle over top and season to taste with salt and pepper.

    3. Grilled Watermelon

Because everything’s better with a few char marks.

    Ingredients:

    • 8 Watermelon Pieces (shaped like a triangle pizza slice)
    • Olive Oil
    • Lime Juice
    • Flaky Sea Salt
    • Crumbled Feta Cheese

    Instructions:

    1. Preheat grill to medium-high heat and brush watermelon slices with olive oil.
    2. Place watermelon directly on heat, and grill 3-4 minutes per side. But don’t move ’em around too much, otherwise they won’t get clear grill marks and nice caramelization.
    3. Remove from grill, squeeze lime juice over top, and season with flaky sea salt and crumbled feta cheese.

    4. Watermelon Fruit Pizza

You’ll never think about pizza the same way again.

    Ingredients:

    • 1/2 Cup Vanilla Greek Yogurt
    • 1 Teaspoon Honey
    • 1 Large Round Watermelon Slice (about 1-inch thick, cut from center of melon)
    • 1/3 Cup Sliced Strawberries
    • 1/4 Cup Blueberries
    • 1/4 Cup Halved Blackberries
    • 2 Kiwis, thinly sliced
    • Handful Torn Fresh Mint Leaves

    Instructions:

    1. Combine yogurt and honey in a small bowl.
    2. Spread mixture over watermelon round, top with berries and mint, then carefully slice into wedges.

There’s nothing quite like the taste of fresh-from-the-freezer popsicles on a scorching hot afternoon. 6. Chocolate-Dipped Watermelon

Sweet watermelon and sweeter chocolate with a touch of salt makes for the perfect bite-sized treat.

    Instructions:

    2. Stick a toothpick into each, then freeze about 30 minutes.
    3. While watermelon is freezing, melt chocolate in the microwave (or a double broiler if you have one).
    4. Once completely melted, carefully dip each watermelon cube into melted chocolate and immediately sprinkle with sea salt.
    5. Place each cube on the sheet and return to freezer until ready to serve.

    7. Lime Watermelon Sorbet

With just three ingredients, this recipe wins the award for easiest dessert. Maaaaaaybe even easier than “nice cream.” We’ll leave that up to you.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 Seedless Watermelon, peeled and cubed
    • 4 Tablespoons Lime Juice
    • Mint, for garnish

    Instructions:

    1. Arrange watermelon cubes in an even layer on a baking sheet, then transfer to freezer and freeze until solid, about 2 hours.

Is it OK to freeze a whole watermelon? â€ș

Don't freeze whole watermelon or big chunks. You'll want to use frozen watermelon while it is still frozen, so leaving it in large pieces makes dealing with it difficult. Cut off the green peel and white rind and slice the pink interior into roughly 1-inch cubes.

What happens when you freeze a whole watermelon? â€ș

The texture does change: The flesh won't have the same toothsome bite it offers prior to freezing. The sweetness drops just a little. Unless you seriously crave the sugary sweetness watermelon brings to a picnic, you should find the frozen version tasty.

How long will an uncut watermelon last in the refrigerator? â€ș

If your watermelon is ripe and you don't have time to eat it, don't panic. But don't slice either. Slide that whole watermelon into the fridge, where it will stay fresh for two to three more weeks.

Can watermelon last a week in the fridge? â€ș

REFRIGERATOR: Refrigerating is a great way to store watermelon if you need to keep it for a couple of extra days. A whole, unsliced watermelon will also last long in the fridge, about 3-4 weeks. The shelf life dramatically decreases once the watermelon is cut.

How many days after cutting a watermelon can you eat it? â€ș

As a part of Cutting & Yield Research the NWPB tested watermelon shelf life, once cut. The 36-count watermelon was still edible at day 7 and had a 7-day shelf life. What makes watermelon taste better? â€ș

Salt is commonly used to dampen bitter flavors—Brussels sprouts or leafy greens are a good example—so when the bitterness of the watermelon is masked by the salt, the sugary sweetness shines. Salt also activates your salivary glands, so a bit of salt is enough to make watermelon seem juicier.

What is the trick for watermelon? â€ș

    Look at the Stripes

You should pick a melon that has a strong, consistent stripe pattern. The green stripes should be a deep, dark green, while the pale stripes should be a creamy, light yellow. Additionally, you may want to choose a dull-looking watermelon. If the melon is very shiny, it is likely underripe.

What does overripe watermelon taste like? â€ș

If it smells bad, it is bad. Taste: Even if the exterior looks okay, there's a chance that the fruit could have gone bad. If you bit into a piece of watermelon that looked and smelled fine but its tastes sour or has a fizzy sensation on your tongue, throw it out.

How do you use a watermelon that is not sweet? â€ș

    Dealing With Bland Watermelon

If you slice in and are disappointed with the flavor, we've found that adding lime zest and juice helps pump it up and honestly... adding a little sugar does too. To make these drinks we pureed the food milled watermelon with sugar, ice and lime juice for a sweet treat.

How do you sweeten a bad watermelon? â€ș

Use a knife to slice a lemon or lime in half and squeeze about 1 tablespoon (15 mL) of juice over sliced or cubed watermelon. Some people find that a boost of acidity makes the melon taste sweeter. Try adding salt and pepper to round out the flavor. Or, if you like spicy foods, add some cayenne or hot sauce!

How do you preserve watermelon? â€ș

Whole watermelon should be left at room temperature until ripe. Once ripe, place the whole watermelon, uncovered, in the refrigerator. Once cut, seal cut watermelon halves or slices in a GladÂź Zipper Bag.

Can you freeze watermelon as ice cubes? â€ș

Cut watermelon into workable pieces. Remove the seeds and the rind. Puree the watermelon in a blender or food processor. Pour the puree into ice cube trays and freeze.

How do you store a lot of watermelon? â€ș

If you have more melon that you'll eat within five days to a week, your best bet is to store the cut melon in the freezer. Remove the rind, cut the melon into pieces, and then freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet until solid. Store in an airtight container or zip-top freezer bag for up to six months.

What are the benefits of eating watermelon all day? â€ș

It has a very high water content and provides nutrients like lycopene, citrulline, and vitamins A and C. Studies suggest that this sweet, red melon may even boost heart health, reduce muscle soreness, and decrease inflammation, though more research is needed.
